Giardini Naxos
Greece's first colony in Sicily, offers a very big
archaeological area with its museum.
Not many landscapes, such as Giardini Naxos enclose the
whole Sicilian beauty, the city is cot of ancient
Mediterranean civilizations and modern tourist resort
among the most famous tourist destinations of south
Italy. Located midway between Messina and Catania,
Giardini Naxos is reachable in less than one hour from
the airport "Fontanarossa" of Catania.

5 km far away), Syracuse, Agrigento,Palermo, the Aeolian
Islands, the Etna, the pine wood of Linguaglossa (an
enchanting and unique sea-snow itinerary) and the
Alcantara valley with the suggestive gorges.
Taormina
Taormina is located at 200 Mt above the sea level on the
top of the mountainous relief that
extends up to the Ionic sea with the "Taormina Cap",
northern from the Alcantara mouth.
In 357 BC the survivors of Nasso settled in this area
and founded a flourishing Greek city.
that moment on Taormina gradually developed, beautiful
buildings were built.
Some buildings of the Greek and Roman time are still to
be seen today.
Among those some Greek and Roman buildings are preserved
to nowadays, they are partially
to be seen and partially hidden between the modern
buildings.
Most famous one is the Greek-Roman theatre, stage of
cultural and musical summer shows and
the very famous Film Festival of Taormina.
Etna
The beauty of the Etna park is not only the grandeur of
the eruptions and the incandescent Lava.
Around the big Volcano you can find a unique and
incomparable environment, rich of sounds, fragrances and
colours. An area with an enchanting landscape, protected
by a natural park which
is a must see for everyone who is here on Holiday.
Agrigento
Founded in 581 BC from the Rhodian and Cretan settlers
from the closer Gela, Akragas became shortly one of the
most important city of the Magna Grecia, second in
Sicily only after Syracuse.
The urban area had a width of 456 hectares and was
surrounded by defensive walls with nine doors at the
entrance.
The population was about 300.000 inhabitants and it was
considered to be "mortals most beautiful city". In 210
BC it was sacked by the Roman and became part of the
empire. In the following centuries it was settled and
rebuilt by the Arabs, it was re-edified on the top of
the hill where today we admire the old town
characterized by the typical Arab structure with its
small lanes and courtyards which converge to the "Via
Atenea", the main street in town still today.
Syracuse
Founded by the Greeks in 743 BC, it grew and bloomed
quickly after the occupation from Gelone who defeated
the Carthaginian in Imera becoming the main Greece's
town in Sicily.
With his successor Gerone became a cultural centre.
With the Roman occupation it began the decay of Syracuse
which lasted also in the Middle Ages.
Catania
The city arose in 729 BC with the name of Katane that in
Sicilian language means "grater"
"rendering plant" (from the lava ground on which it
rises) and it was one of the first Greece Colony in
Sicily. It was conquered by the Roman in 263 BC who left
architectural remains from the Augusto time.
After the Byzantine domination there was the Arab
domination and after the Norman one which brought many
changes and innovation into the town, such as for
examples, the build of the cathedral and of the several
monasteries.
With the Aragon the city knew a recovery period and of
cultural ferment. In this period the first Sicilian
University was founded. The next Spanish domination and
the devastating earthquake of 1693made this area plunge
into a severe economic crisis. This period was followed
by an important
reconstruction campaign which went on also after the
Unification of Italy.
In the nineteenth century the city bloomed in the
culture,worldliness, literature, music and theatre.
Caltagirone
After the earthquake of 1693 the city was rebuilt in
baroque style. The Duomo is notable for the treasure and
the pictorial works so well as other churches. Very
interesting the scale of the mountain (112 steps) with
local pottery decorations.
Gole dell'Alcantara
The Alcantara river, one of the first main Sicilian
river, it flows around the northern slopes of Etna
and falls in Naxos, into the Ionian sea. It offers a
breathtaking scenery, its waters are quiet with small
lakes but also impetuous with suggestive waterfalls.
